RichsYard.com was created as a source for creating a fun and enjoyable backyard for you and your family. Your backyard should be your own private sanctuary where you can relax, entertain, and enjoy.

My name is Rich and there is no greater space that I enjoy pouring myself into than my backyard. I live in north Texas, so I get to enjoy my yard pretty much the entire year.

The categories of this site breakdown what I feel are the essential elements for creating an incredible yard for you and your family:

Patios & Decks — I knew nothing, zippo, about decks and patios. I just knew I loved to hang out on them. This is fluid, and for me, has changed every few years as my family needs have changed.

Grilling — I love to BBQ. Having a place to entertain outside, cook, and gather has been a centerpiece of my design.

Yard Games — We love to play. Whether it’s swimming, yard games, shooting, or whatever – the ideas are limitless.

Landscape — This includes your flowers, trees, your lawn, bushes, vegetables, fruit, or whatever – having a great landscape is probably the thing my wife loves most about our yard.

Wildlife — The icing on the cake is sharing your yard with birds, squirrels, rabbits, and other wildlife. Wildlife can be fantastic, but they can also be destructive. Learning how to enjoy wildlife in your backyard is definitely a task to be balanced.

Valuing Your Backyard

It has always been a value of mine to create a place where my family felt safe to play, relax, and unwind.

Let’s face it, life is hard, at best, and having a place to de-stress and pour yourself into is something that many of us have created as a top priority.

We use our yard. It is not a “Stay off the grass” kind of yard. There were many years that we bought an Intex above-ground pool and absolutely killed a 12-15′ circle in our grass. But we had a ton of fun!

We have had many parties, birthday celebrations, holidays, and late nights gathered around the fire pit in our backyard.

We get out the BB guns and shoot down cans. We play disc golf. We love bocci and croquet.

We love our grass to be full and lush. We love the yard to pop with color from flowers. We love to see birds gathered at our feeders.

We value the space we have had, however big or small it has been in our homes.

So… Who is Rich?

As I said, my name is Rich. I am not a professional anything when it comes to landscaping, design, craftsmanship, zoologist, or anything like that. Backyards have been a passion of mine… which has led me to helping a bunch of people — mostly friends, and a few clients as well.

I am a family guy who has researched, tried things, and shopped and shopped for the best I could create and afford for my wife, my kids, our friends, and myself to enjoy.

Recently we as a family were sitting around in our living room just chatting. My kids began telling us stories how their friends always wanted to come over to our home. They loved burgers & dogs on the grill while they messed around in our yard, shot baskets, and horsed around in the pool.

Our family from the Midwest has always loved to travel to Texas so they could stay in our home and “vacation” in our yard – playing games, swimming, parties on the patio, and ending the nights with s’mores around the fire pit.

My wife has her college friends over for their annual get-together. They loved brisket on the grill, sunning during the day, and sitting under the Texas stars talking about life.

That’s who I am. It is what I love! I love that we have a place where I can spend by myself, my wife and I working the yard, kids in the pool, or a whole yard full of people.
